  • Searches are not case-sensitive

Better Basic Searches

  • To search for an exact phrase, include double quotation marks around your phrase e.g. "climate change" as shown below. If you do not use quotation marks it will return results with the individual words in any order.

  • You can combine search terms using the operator OR. This is useful for searching synonyms. When using operators within your search phrase you must enter in uppercase letters.

  • You can combine search terms using the operator AND. This is useful for searching different topics when you need your information to be about both topics together. When using operators within your search phrase you must enter in uppercase letters.

  • You can also exclude words or phrases from your search results using the operator NOTWhen using operators within your search phrase you must enter in uppercase letters. In the example below the search will included results about canine animals but NOT dental canines.

  • You can also use wildcard characters to search for different spellings of a word. This is very useful when there are differences in Australian and American spelling of words. In the example below results will include both the words paediatric and pediatric.

  • Another wildcard character can be used to search for variations of a base word  The search below would return results with the words nurse, nurses, nursing and nursery.
