APA Quick Referencing: Books

Referencing a Book

      The information required when referencing a book in a Reference List is:

  • author (surname and initials)
  • year of publication (in brackets)
  • title of book (in italics)
  • edition (if not the first)
  • publisher     

       
      Where to look for information when referencing a book:

  • on the title page for the title, author and publisher
  • on the back of the title page for the year of publication

    Hint: The title is not italicized when there is no author.

  • publisher

Only include the edition number (e.g. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc) if it is not the 1st edition.
