The ALA helps to create a more detailed picture of Australia’s biodiversity for scientists, policy makers, environmental planners and land managers, industry and the general public, and enables them to work more efficiently.

GrassBase - The Online World Grass Flora An integrated, online view of the World Grass Species databases. Nearly 11,000 species descriptions in addition to this the synonymy/nomenclature database now contains links to these species descriptions integrated with searches for the accepted name and synonyms for just over 60,000 grass names. Did you know there are smart phone applications for animal identification purposes.

Birds - Morcombe's Bird Calls of Australia Features: Optimised controls; Over 3000 hi-res bird images covering over 790 bird species; Detailed distribution map showing any subspecies that occur; Detailed text descriptions including songs and calls, measurements and breeding behaviour; Carefully-selected sound recordings; Compare any two images, maps, or sounds, side by side on the screen; Filter by geographic location; "Smart Search"; Stores your sightings saved to the device; A comprehensive help and introduction section.
FrogID A project led by the Australian Museum in partnership with Australia’s leading natural history museums and IBM. Use the App to create a profile, record frog calls and match your calls to the frog calls on the app. Then upload your records to the Australian Museum frog experts for species verification. With your help we can put more frog species on the map and track changes to their species and habitats over time, and therefore monitor our waterways health.
iNaturalist Identify the plants and animals around you.
Irrigate WA (App from Dept Agriculture and Food) The Irrigate WA app will assist with the implementation of correct irrigation scheduling for a variety of crops, regions and soil types.
MyPestGuide (App from Dept Agriculture and Food) Brings people together to create a collaborative network of people to report and learn about local pests. The MyPestGuide family includes a Reporter app, three pest identification field guides, a decision tool and a community website
MyWeedWatcher (App from Dept Agriculture and Food) Enables users to identify weeds, conduct surveys on weeds of interest and report on the presence of declared weeds. The identification guide allows users to quickly search for a weed according to plant characteristics such as flower colour, leaf shape, and plant type. The survey/reporting feature enables users to map weeds, add images and record survey data such as weed density, weed counts, confidence of identification, and notes on control activities done.
Critterpedia App is in development and due for release in 2023. Sign up to take part in testing the app.
