Project Management: Project Scope

When we talk about defining the scope, we are talking about developing a common understanding as to what is included in, or excluded from, a project.

A successful project scope statement should be concise and clear. Anyone reading the statement should have a good idea of what the project consists of (and what will not be part of the project).

Defining what is needed is the first step toward establishing a project timeline, setting of project goals and allocating project resources. These steps will help you to define the work that needs to be done - or in other words, define the scope of the project.

In project management, scope refers to all of the products, services, and results provided by your project. Having a clear and agreed definition of your project's scope and managing that scope as the project proceeds is critical for it's success.
