Central Regional TAFE Library: Services for Staff

All currently employed staff regardless of campus are eligible to borrow from the Library.

A staff ID card is usually required. Please present this card when using library services in person.

Staff may borrow up to 30 items at a time.

Resource  Loan Period
Books  3 weeks
DVDs  7 days
Journals/Magazines  3 weeks

Please note that you are responsible for the safe return of all items you borrow.

Only borrow for your own use. Other staff or students are not permitted to use your ID card or library account.

If the item you need is on loan, you can recall or reserve it. We will hold it for you on its return.

Speak to Library Staff if you want to place a request. Requests can also be made through Supersearch. We will contact you when your request is ready to collect.

Most items can be renewed up to 3 times.

This can be done in person, by phone, email or via Supersearch.

Loans cannot be renewed if:

  • Another borrower has placed a request on the item, or
  • You have reached your maximum number of renewals.
Overdue Items

We will send a courtesy notice by email prior to an items due date.

If you do not return items by the due date you will receive a reminder notice.

If an item is not returned within a reasonable time, you will be charged for the cost plus a non-refundable administration fee.

Staff with outstanding accounts may have their borrowing privileges suspended.

We offer a range of orientation and training sessions for staff soon after commencement of employment, as well as on demand. Refreshers are also available.

Orientation sessions explain the use of the library facilities, the services we offer, your copyright obligations and more.

Personal training sessions can be provided on how to use Supersearch, how to use our Databases, find Australian Standards, use our streaming video collections and more.

Please contact your local Library staff to discuss your needs or to make an appointment.

You can book training sessions for your class and if required these can be tailored to suit your course.

We value your input in suggesting new resources for the Library. Your subject knowledge and training expertise is essential input for us to purchase relevant collection resources.

Please contact us to request resources.

The Permalink of any item will automatically include the Library's authentication process. You don't need to do anything except copy and paste the link.

Go to the Online Resources tab in this guide for more information about our online resources.

This service is free of charge to all CRTAFE staff.

Only course related items not held by us may be requested using this service. Limits do apply.

The Library offers a range of information literacy workshops for you and your students, either face to face or online.

These workshops include: Basic Research Skills, APA Referencing, Study Skills, How to use the Online Resources and more. These can be tailored to suit your course content.

For further information, please ask the Library Staff.

We can create online guides for your courses. These include information about and links to relevant hard copy and online resources, as well as suitable web resources.

Guides can be embedded in your online courses, giving your students access to quality content.

Check out some of the other guides already developed. If interested contact us to discuss your requirements.

Using quality information resources with your students is an essential part of your training delivery, but what if the copyright of that resource is owned by somebody else?

In order to comply with your obligations under the Copyright Act, you need to understand the requirements of the Act in an educational institution, and to label (attribute) resources correctly.

For more information on how to manage your copyright obligations and access free resources, please go to our guide Copyright for Staff.

Access to standards is automatic on campus and you will be listed as an anonymous user.

If you have a standard that is not currently part of the Colleges' subscription, please email your request to the library.

Off campus access requires you to login with your college network username and password.

To access the Standards off campus, you must have the FileOpen plugin installed on your device.

For more information on the FileOpen plugin and accessing Standards go to the Online Resources tab on this site.
