Types of Communication. Effective communication will change  depending on the type of communication. For example, you need different skills for communicating face-to-face, on the phone, or over email. Verbal communication is: face-to-face, phone (conference, meeting). Non verbal is: body language, eye contact, facial expressions, tone of voice. Written is: email, feedback, messaging. Active listening is: withholding judgement, sharing, reflecting, clarifying, paying attention, summarising.
