ALMA & PRIMO

PRIMO is a discovery layer from the vendor company Ex Libris.
The product encompasses the Primo interface and Primo Central Index.  These systems are all under contract.

The LRSN Consortium also uses ALMA from Ex Libris as its ULSP: Unified Library Systems Platform to manage library operations across the 6 library systems with the group.

The LRSN voted to market PRIMO as SuperSearch to its clients.
Ex Libris has created a view for each institute and this view reflects each institute's ALMA holdings and online content.

PRIMO is not a library catalogue. It is important to note that it does not work as a library catalogue.
A library catalogue is an index of standardised MARC records using a predominant set of cataloguing rules.
It includes formats and authority files such as subject headings (from Library of Congress) etc.

The Primo Central Index system harvests metadata from content providers.
It enables students to search a range of formats; books, ebooks, music, videos, online articles etc. in the same search.

SuperSearch (Primo) is superior to the way a standard library catalogue works.

ALMA Sandbox Links

Sandboxes can be accessed by all library staff.
Contact LRSN for passwords.

The Metro Sandbox is based on NMT ALMA
The Regional Sandbox is based on SRT ALMA

These are reimaged twice a year with NMT/SRT data

ALMA - PRIMO Display

There are a number of processes involved before elements of an ALMA Marc record is displayed in PRIMO.

One key element is the PNX table that defines which marc tags are displayed in PRIMO.
