Evidence Based Practice

Why is Evidence Based Practice Important?

Evidence-based practice is the use of research evidence, with a combination of clinical expertise and patient values, to inform clinical decisions.

Evidence-based care is:

  • Best available research evidence
  • Staff skills, training and experience (clinical expertise)
  • The patient’s values and circumstances (e.g. financial situation)
  • The practice context in which healthcare staff are working.
