Avoiding Plagiarism

  • Copying the words and ideas of others without acknowledging correct ownership is called plagiarism
  • Cutting and pasting from several sources to create a paper (even when correctly referenced) is considered plagiarism.
  • Plagiarising is academically dishonest, and is considered cheating.  It may result in disciplinary action being taken against you.
  • The solution is learning to correctly reference material that you have cited within your report or essay.
  • Make sure you understand and comply with the assessment requirements set out by your lecturer.  If you are in any doubt, ask your lecturer for assistance.
